Mushroom cultivation: A means of high profit at low cost

Mushroom cultivation has gained rapid popularity in the last few years in the farming scenario in India. Being a cash crop, it has become a better option for farmers to earn. It can be cultivated throughout the year, and its constant demand in the market makes it even more attractive. Due to its taste and nutritional value, it remains a favorite of the people as a special vegetable.

Growing popularity of mushroom cultivation

Sunil Verma of Fatehabad village in Barabanki district started mushroom cultivation on a small scale a few years ago. He initially started growing it in a bungalow and today he is cultivating it in two big sheds. Due to his hard work and right technology, he is getting a profit of Rs 6-7 lakh per crop.

Low cost, high profit

According to Sunil Verma, the profit in mushroom cultivation is much higher than the cost. It costs about Rs 1.5 lakh to prepare a shed, but it gives a profit of Rs 6-7 lakh. The demand for mushrooms increases significantly in the winter season, which gives good profits to the farmers. Apart from this, once the mushrooms are planted, the crop is continuously available for four to five months.

Cultivation process

Special thatches are prepared for mushroom cultivation. Beds are made inside the thatch with the help of bamboo sticks. A mixture prepared by mixing wheat straw, vermicompost, neem cake and cow dung manure is poured on these beds. This mixture is rotted for a month, so that it becomes suitable for sowing mushrooms. The mushroom crop starts growing within about 15 days of sowing. This process continues for 4-5 months, giving farmers a constant income.

Why is mushroom cultivation beneficial?

  1. High demand: There is a demand for mushrooms in the market throughout the year.
  2. Profitable crop: The cost is low and the profit is high.
  3. Farming in less space: It can be grown in thatched roofs, which reduces the need for land.
  4. Rich in nutrition: It is a healthy and protein-rich crop, which keeps it in demand in the market.

Conclusion

Mushroom farming is proving to be a great source of income for farmers. With the right technology and a little hard work, farmers can earn more profit at low cost. If you are looking for a profitable farming option, then mushroom farming can be a great option for you.
