Chief Minister Mangala Animal Insurance Scheme: Relief initiative for livestock farmers

The Rajasthan government has issued new guidelines under the Chief Minister Mangala Animal Insurance Scheme. Clarifying the blueprint of this scheme on December 18, the Animal Husbandry Department announced that livestock farmers will get compensation up to ₹ 40,000 on the death of insured animals under the scheme.

Janadhaar card holders will be eligible

This scheme has been started with the aim of providing financial security to the livestock farmers of the state. Under this, all livestock farmers holding Janadhaar card will be eligible. Under this insurance scheme, compensation will be given in case of loss of livestock.

Online application process started

Livestock farmers can apply for this scheme till January 12, 2025. The application process will be done through mobile app or web portal. The selection process will be based on lottery. Gopal Credit Card holders and Lakhpati Didi livestock farmers will be given priority. Provision of 16% and 12% reservation has been made for Scheduled Castes and Tribes respectively.

Tagging of animals is mandatory

Tagging of animals is mandatory for insurance. Selected cattle owners can get free insurance for maximum two milch animals (cow-buffalo), 10 goats, 10 sheep and 1 camel.

Insurance will be given only to those animals which are not already insured under any other scheme. The insurance period will be one year and no premium will be charged for it. The insurance amount will be decided on the basis of the breed, age and milk production capacity of the animal, but the maximum limit will be ₹40,000.

Insurable age of animals

Cow: 3 to 12 years

Buffalo: 4 to 12 years

Goat and sheep: 1 to 6 years

Camel: 2 to 15 years

This scheme will be operated by the State Insurance and Provident Fund Department on trust mode, while the Animal Husbandry Department will act as the nodal department.

Information process and re-tagging system

On completion of the insurance process, the link of the insurance policy will be sent to the livestock owners through mobile SMS. If the tag is lost, the livestock owner will have to immediately inform the insurance department. The department will re-issue the tag the next day and update it in the software.

Claim process

In case of death of the insured animal, the livestock owner will have to immediately inform the insurance department. After completion of the postmortem report and survey process, the claim amount will be transferred to the account of the concerned livestock owner within 21 working days.

Insurance target of 21 lakh animals

In 2019, the total livestock number of Rajasthan was 5.68 crores. In the first phase, a target has been set to insure 21 lakh animals under this scheme.

Online application options

The livestock farmers can apply themselves through e-Mitra Kendra or mobile. After selection, the insurance process will be completed.

Objective of the scheme

The objective of the Chief Minister Mangala Pashu Bima Yojana is to provide financial security to the livestock farmers of the state and provide relief on the loss of their livestock. This initiative is an important step towards promoting animal husbandry in the state and making the livestock farmers self-reliant.
